Opportunity Village and Employee Monica Harrison Honored with National
SourceAmerica Achievement Awards
LAS VEGAS – On Wednesday, May 3, Opportunity Village hosted a viewing party for SourceAmerica’s Achievement Awards Banquet that took place in New Orleans, in which Opportunity Village and an employee from the organization, Monica Harrison, were recognized. SourceAmerica is a national nonprofit that creates employment opportunities for people with significant disabilities through a national network of more than 1,200 nonprofit agencies. Each year, SourceAmerica celebrates the achievements of people with disabilities and its community partners at an awards banquet that takes place during SourceAmerica’s National Training and Achievement Conference.
Opportunity Village was honored with the AbilityOne Network Award for Performance Excellence in Grassroots Advocacy, which recognizes a nonprofit agency’s effective, creative approach for engaging and educating public policymakers on a local, state or federal level about the AbilityOne Program. The Federal AbilityOne Program provides employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities, and SourceAmerica was founded in 1974 to facilitate the program by linking Federal procurement customers with nonprofits that supply products and services. Opportunity Village works with SourceAmerica to acquire, manage, and execute service contracts for the Federal Government.
Harrison was presented with the Tom Miller Advocacy Award, which recognizes an employee with a significant disability who has demonstrated outstanding achievement and remarkable passion for self-advocacy on a local and/or national level. In addition to a crystal award, Harrison received a check for $1,000 and was showcased in a video highlighting her accomplishments at the awards banquet.
