LAS VEGAS – Opportunity Village announces it has received a $1 million donation from NV Energy as a contribution to the organization’s Christopher’s Crossing Capital Campaign. The generous gift will be applied to the Revive and Renew initiative at Opportunity Village’s West Oakey Campus.
"Opportunity Village provides an important service to our community and we are proud to continue our 25-year partnership with them with this donation, which will help them meet the needs of future generations," said Paul Caudill, President and Chief Executive Officer of NV Energy and Chair of the NV Energy Foundation.
The Christopher’s Crossing Capital Campaign, unprecedented in size and scope with a goal of $150 million, will fund the development of two residential communities, a fourth Employment Resource Center campus in northwest Las Vegas and expand current campuses to meet the growing demand for programs and services. Funds from this donation are earmarked for the Revive and Renew initiative at the West Oakey Campus, which includes replacing the aging infrastructure, creating a new and safer transportation hub, improving the Magical Forest guest experience, and expanding programs, services and employment opportunities in Pride, Enable and the Employment Resource Center.
“We’re beyond grateful for the generosity of Paul Caudill and our terrific friends at NV Energy. This donation will help us improve and expand our myriad of programs and services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and will also allow us to make the Magical Forest bigger, brighter and better than ever,” said Bob Brown, president and CEO of Opportunity Village.
NV Energy has a strong tradition of community involvement and a social responsibility strategy designed to improve the quality of life for the people who live and work in their service territories throughout Nevada.
About Opportunity Village
Mission: Opportunity Village is a not-for-profit organization that serves people within our community with significant intellectual disabilities, to improve their lives and the lives of their families.
Opportunity Village was founded in 1954 by seven families who were determined to give their children with disabilities the best lives possible. Now, more than 60 years later, Opportunity Village is one of the most recognized and respected organizations of its type in the United States.
Nevada’s largest employer of people with disabilities (who we call OVIPs), Opportunity Village serves nearly 3,000 individuals annually, providing vocational training, employment, habilitation and social recreation programs and services that make their lives more purposeful and interesting.
Opportunity Village citizens – individuals who were previously considered unemployable – work at Opportunity Village’s Employment Resource Centers and in jobs throughout the community, collectively earning wages amounting to more than $3.9 million in 2014. They are hard-working and diligent, proudly paying taxes and happily leading more fulfilling lives.
Primarily a self-funded organization, Opportunity Village generates the majority of its operational funding through its employment contracts and fundraising efforts such as the Magical Forest and Great Santa Run, saving Nevada taxpayers nearly $35 million annually.
